SAM needs interns to serve as Curatorial Assistants, Art/ Museum Educators, Administrative Assistants, PR/ Marketing Assistants, & Graphic Designers.

  • Unpaid Internships are available for interested College, Graduate, and High School students throughout the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Take the initiative and achieve priceless, hands-on experience in a work environment relating to your major.
  • We will work with your Institution's requirements, allowing you to achieve academic credit.

Art/Museum Educator Intern

Tasks of the Art / Museum Educator Intern include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop curriculum for museum educational programs.
  • Teach or assist in teaching various educational programs.
  • Attend docent-training sessions, using that information to give museum tours.
  • Maintain classroom and educational storage spaces.
  • Conduct readings relating to progressive education, museum studies and fine art philosophies.
  • Perform research related to SAM's educational programs.
  • Represent the Museum at scheduled community events and festivals.
  • When needed, assist with the installation and handling of original artworks.
  • General administrative tasks associated with education programs as assigned by Museum staff.

Where possible, the Art / Museum Educator Intern is encouraged to develop and implement an independent project related to SAM's educational programs and exhibitions.

Curatorial Assistant Internship

The Curatorial Assistant Intern at the Susquehanna Art Museum participates in a variety of projects, including those associated with the administration and implementation of the Museum's exhibitions. Tasks of the Curatorial Assistant Intern include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The research and development of upcoming exhibits, including making contacts with other art institutions and handling loan forms.
  • Exhibit installation, including the patching and painting of walls, the hanging of individual works of art, and the preparation of lighting.
  • Art handling, including the unpacking and packing of artwork and maintenance of condition reports. Working with participating artists and the Doshi Gallery Steering Committee in order to prepare Doshi Gallery exhibits.
  • Accompany staff members in the return and pick-up of artworks to and from galleries and institutions on the East Coast.
  • General administrative tasks associated with exhibitions and general museum programs as assigned by Museum staff.

Where possible, the Curatorial Assistant Intern is encouraged to develop and implement an independent project related to SAM's exhibitions.

PR/Marketing Intern

The PR / Marketing Intern at the Susquehanna Art Museum participates in a variety of projects, including those associated with the administration and implementation of the Museum's public relations and marketing plan. Strong computer skills are required or a high interest/ ability to work independently with pc design programs. Tasks of the PR/ Marketing Intern include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • The research and development of upcoming exhibits, including the creation of press releases and visual advertisements for promotional value.
  • As a representative of the Susquehanna Art Museum, make new working relationships within the community between organizations, businesses or individuals.
  • Working with the various departments within the museum to design, print and distribute flyers, brochures or other promotional literature.
  • Organizing and filing an archive of pr/marketing documents.
  • Working with the Director of Marketing and Development to gain experience in administrative duties including marketing and fundraising.
  • Work with SAM's webmanager to gain experience in communications & design through a progressive and developing website.
  • General administrative or installation tasks associated with marketing and design as assigned by Museum staff.

Where possible, the PR / Marketing Intern is encouraged to develop and implement an independent project related to SAM's public relations and/or marketing venues.
