Lectures
Throughout the year, the Museum hosts lectures to support the
exhibitions in our galleries. Educators can attend to gain new
knowledge, perspective, and ideas, as well as earn Act 48 continuing
education hours. Please refer to the
Museum’s Calendar of Events for a schedule of upcoming
lectures.
Professional Development for Teachers
The Susquehanna Art Museum is an approved provider of Act 48
hours in Pennsylvania. This allows SAM to offer lectures and workshops
that generate continuing professional education hours for certified
teachers. Most opportunities are free, and we will manage the
paperwork involved for recording participation credit.

Group Tours
No experience in the arts compares with viewing the primary source – original works of art. Textures and materials come to life when students see works of art firsthand. Original works of art connect students to the historical and cultural context in which these artworks are made, provide a forum to understand art as a way of communicating/reflecting important ideas, and serve as inspiration for self-reflection. Students will carry these experiences with them as they grow and develop as human beings in our ever-changing society.
Group tours consist of a 45-60 minute guided tour through our current exhibition led by museum staff; included are lessons on museum etiquette. The Susquehanna Art Museum’s staff will divide larger groups of students to ensure individual attention.
Group tours of selected exhibitions support the Pennsylvania
Academic Standards for Education by introducing themes that are relevant to a wide array of academic curricula, in addition to addressing issues inherent to the visual arts.
Group tours must be scheduled during regular
museum hours and can be tailored to the age and background of the group. Group tours can also include a Museum
Experience Workshop if scheduled at least three weeks prior to the visit. Please contact the Education Department at 717-233-8668 x 7 for scheduling and fee structure for group tours.
