Curated by art historian and author Dr. Lori Verderame

Adornment, Ritual, Power: The Arts of West Africa, an exhibition of African art and utilitarian objects, explores the beauty and background of traditional carvings, ceremonial sculptures, textiles and ritual objects as they relate to the history of West African culture. The exhibit features museum-quality contemporary artwork and African works of art and art objects made by various West African peoples including the Dan, Mossi, Yoruba, Ashanti, and Senufo.

The African Spirit in Contemporary Art further highlights the work of contemporary artists, both African American and non-African American, whose work is inspired or influenced by African art and culture either visually or contextually or both. The exhibition shows the impact of West African art and culture on contemporary art.
