The 35th annual exhibition, Art of the State: Pennsylvania 2002 opens June 15. Co-sponsored by The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Friends of The State Museum and The Greater Harrisburg Arts Council, Art of the State is a highly competitive, juried art exhibition open to state residents in five categories: painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture and crafts. This year's Art of the State features 118 works by 113 artists from 24 Pennsylvania counties.

Four distinguished out-of-state judges selected artworks from among 1,446 entries. The Greater Harrisburg Arts Council will present cash awards totaling more than $6,500 to winners in each of five categories. In addition, The State Museum offers a $1,000 Purchase Award to be announced at the opening reception. This work will become part of The Museum’s permanent fine arts collection.
