The 35th annual exhibition,
Art of the State: Pennsylvania 2002 opens June 15. Co-sponsored
by The State Museum of Pennsylvania, Friends of The State Museum
and The Greater Harrisburg Arts Council, Art of the State is a highly
competitive, juried art exhibition open to state residents in five
categories: painting, works on paper, photography, sculpture and
crafts. This year's Art of the State features 118 works by 113 artists
from 24 Pennsylvania counties.
Four distinguished out-of-state
judges selected artworks from among 1,446 entries. The Greater Harrisburg
Arts Council will present cash awards totaling more than $6,500
to winners in each of five categories. In addition, The State Museum
offers a $1,000 Purchase Award to be announced at the opening reception.
This work will become part of The Museums permanent fine arts
collection.
