Dennis W. Felty, a local fine art photographer and artist, will present a lecture and slide presentation exploring the compelling role of sensuality and the classic female figure in memorial art around the world. The photographic images are from Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, Monumental Cemetery in Milan Italy, Steglieno Cemetery in Genova Italy, De Campo Cemetery in Rome and Novodevichye Cemetery in Moscow.

"Flesh to Stone" - Staglieno, Genova ItalyA series of silver gelatin prints from the “Of Flesh and Stone” exhibit will be on display. The lecture will address the spiritual, historical and cultural role of this powerful art form as well as its contemporary expression.

The beautiful and intriguing images “Of Flesh and Stone” explore a collective yearning to understand the human condition, our vulnerability, our mortality, our capacity for both renewal and redemption and ultimately the terror of the unknown. There will be an opportunity for both questions and discussion during the presentation.

The artist plans to publish “Of Flesh and Stone” as a fine art book. This is the premier presentation of the material and a traveling exhibit of 24 prints will be available in the Spring of 2003. Light refreshments will be served.

Please note: figurative images of the classic western art presented in the lecture may not be appropriate for young children.
