Current Exhibit (2007-2008) Art Tells a Story: The Narrative in ArtWorks of art that tell a story are called narratives. Inspirations for narratives come from a wide variety of sources – literature, scripture, mythology, history, or current events. Narratives can teach, enlighten or inspire, and often carry moral, social, or patriotic messages. Narrative artworks can also use the concept of allegory – where the literal content of a work stands for abstract ideas and suggests a parallel, deeper, symbolic sense. The Susquehanna Art Museum is pleased to present its 2007-08 exhibition Art Tells a Story: The Narrative in Art on its award-winning VanGo! Museum on Wheels. This exhibition of drawings, paintings, mixed media, sculpture and more will provide students with a means to recognize narrative elements and ideas that can be found in a variety of art forms. It will also provide a forum for visitors to develop personal understandings and appreciation for the important role the visual arts plays in communication. Art Tells a Story helps viewers to understand and appreciate how narratives can be constructed from elements such as pictorial images, visual metaphors, and art forms, and addresses Pennsylvania’s Academic Standards of Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening; History; and Arts & Humanities. Artists included in the 2007-08 exhibition: Carol Cole, Susan Read Cronin, Carlos Diaz, Rob Evans, Brian Floca, Janet Goldner, Miles Halpern, DeLoss McGraw, Native American Indian Tribes, Coke Wisdom O’Neal, Florence Putterman, Faith Ringgold, Nora Sturges, Leah Tinari, Teri Traner.
