Current exhibit - Rolling Rainbow: Color Matters
VanGo! 2005-2006

Imagine a world without color. Without lights and darks, hues and pigments, or shadows and highlights. Color has been prevalent in art throughout the centuries. Venetian Style color was rich and pure, Baroque mysterious and haunting. The Abstract Expressionists of the 1950s made color the subject of their paintings, walking away from representational imagery and embracing great canvases of pure color. Color can change our mood and even enhance our appearance. It is an integral part of our everyday life and often goes unnoticed. The artists being considered for the VanGo! 2005-2006 exhibition Rolling Rainbow, have embraced color and have made it the focus of their work.

This exhibition will include artists who create craft, photography, sculpture, drawings and paintings that emphasize colors. It will address Pennsylvania’s Academic Standards of Science 3.4, Physical Science and Visual Arts, 9.1 Production and Elements of Art. Terms and theories that will be discussed through this exhibit are:

Historical elements of art will be discussed through Georges Seurat and pointillism, Henri Matisse and the Fauves, the Venetian Style of the Renaissance and Color Field paintings of Abstract Expressionism.
