Current Exhibit (2006-2007) Art Counts: Math in ArtThe Susquehanna Art Museum is pleased to announce that the exhibition “Art Counts: Math in Art” will be featured on its award-winning VanGo! Museum on Wheels for the 2006-07 school year. “Art Counts: Math in Art” explores the many relationships between math and art and provide a means to recognize mathematical elements and concepts that can be found in a variety of art forms. Math and art are two ways that help us make sense of and organize the world around us. In math, we use numbers and equations, and in art, visual information such as color, line, value, shape, light, and space are used. This exhibit will provide a forum for visitors to develop an understanding and appreciation of the important role math plays in the creation of works of art through history, as well as today. This exhibition features prominent contemporary artists actively using mathematical concepts in their artwork. “Art Counts: Math in Art” will provide students and adults with insight into the working methods and ideas of important contemporary artists. This exhibition will feature paintings, sculpture, ceramics, digital prints and more, and will address Pennsylvania’s Academic Standards of Math: (2.1) Numbers, Number Systems, and Relationships, (2.2) Computation and Estimation, (2.3) Measurement and Estimation, (2.4) Mathematical Problem Solving and Communication, (2.9) Geometry and Visual Arts: (9.1) Production, Performance and Exhibition, (9.2) Critical Response, and (9.4) Aesthetic Response.
